From the recording Barefoot

I was with someone long term who ended up leaving me for a much older man. While having coffee one morning on my front porch I came up with this little dittie based on the thought that I wished I was old, so that I could meet a younger woman like her. I couldn't help but laugh at myself and I knew at that moment that I was over her. . .

Lyrics

I once was young and handsome too,
But now I'm old and oh so blue.
I once was happy when I had you,
But now I've got the old mans broken hearted blues.

I was just a kid, you was just a babe,
I promised you I'd always stay.
We made big plans for our wedding day,
But just like that you went away.

I didn't try to reprimand,
No I just cried, cause you found a new man.
And he's so old he could be your dad.
I admit, I don't understand.

I'm a little tired, a little older too.
My hair is grayer, my eyes aren't so blue.
And I was just wondering if there's anything that I could do,
That would make me old, old enough for you.

I once was young and handsome too,
But now I'm old and oh so blue.
I once was happy when I had you,
But now I've got the old mans broken hearted blues.
